Check an EU VAT number

This tells you if a number could be right. Only VIES, the European Commission's service, or the tax authority can tell you if it is registered. VIES does not exempt a supply by itself: its notice says so. We do not query it; open it yourself.

Common mistakes

• Greece uses the prefix EL in VIES, not GR.
• VIES has not covered UK numbers since 1 January 2021. Numbers under the Northern Ireland Protocol use the prefix XI.
• VIES asks for the number without spaces or dots. This page removes them for you.
